A memorial service for Mr. Charles Ray Hall, age 75, will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM at South Union Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Hall passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
Charles Ray Hall, a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, and respected community
member, passed away on October 23, 2024. Born to Mary Anderson and Henry C. Hall,
Charles Ray was one of their thirteen beloved children. Growing up in Palestine, Texas,
he developed a passion for service and a deep commitment to his family and
community.
A Vietnam War Veteran, Charles Ray served his country with honor in the U.S. Army,
where he received multiple commendations before his honorable discharge in August of
1970. Upon returning to Texas, he continued to exemplify dedication and integrity as a
custodian for the Palestine Independent School District, where he worked tirelessly for
45 years.
Charles Ray was a man of learning and technical skill. He earned a certification in Farm
Machinery Mechanics from Texas A&M University. His love of mechanics and
continuous learning inspired those around him and is a testament to his drive and
curiosity.
Above all, Charles Ray valued family. He was the cherished father of Charles C.
Carwell (deceased) and Tanya F. Carwell, and a proud grandfather to Janel Carwell
(deceased) and Tanija Carwell. His godson, Willie Carwell, affectionately known as
"Pookie," was loved and raised by Charles Ray as his own, reflecting the deep care he
held for family bonds.
Charles Ray's passing is mourned by his surviving siblings, Pauline Hall and Mae
Washington of Houston. He is also welcomed into eternal rest by siblings who have
gone before him: Lillian Gardner, Kathryn Hall-Gardner, Maurine Roberson, Charles E.
Hall, Cleotha Hall, Bobby W. Hall, Billy W. Hall, and Henry Hall. Joining them in spirit
are his nephew, Henry Hall II, and niece, Stephanie Ann Washington.
He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, love, and kindness. His granddaughter Tanija,
godson Willie, and a host of extended family including nieces, nephews, cousins, and
numerous special friends. Charles Ray will be remembered for his strength, humility,
and the enduring values he exemplified to all who knew him.
